Hello friends,

Carp fishing as a modality of fishing big carps and other cyprinids using modern techniques is at the peak given the technical environment in which it is developed and the enormous specimens captured, and it makes everyone enthusiastic.
My passion for carp fishing has given me the opportunity to motivate myself and make my own inventions, which have helped to make me feel proud when I catch a fish with something I made myself, since results are excellent.
This time, given that most materials used in this modality are usually expensive, after being thinking I decided to get down to it and manufacture wireless transmitter-receivers to ‘tell me’ when a fish bites even if I’m not close to the rods.
As in my town I couldn’t get all the electric components I needed, I decided to put a second option in practice.
This option allows me to manufacture a transmitter-receiver for carp fishing following these principles:

Simple.
Cheap.
Useful.

Radio frequencies are severely legislated, but using walkie-talkies, which are absolutely legal, you won’t have any problem.
This work can be done even by those without any knowledge in computing, only by  carrying out the following steps.

The wireless transmitter-receiver manufacturing process is the following:

          MATERIALS.
1.- A pair of walkie-talkies. Choose small and cheap models – they can reach a 3 miles (5 km) range in open field. (PICTURE 1)
2.- A rigid plastic box, with an appropriate size for a walkie-talkie.
3.- Two small relays for 12 volts and 1 amp. (PICTURE 2)
4.- Two female double connectors and two male double connectors.
5.- Two LEDs (not essential).
6.- One screw made of brass or any other stainless material, with an appropriate size for your rod pod.

TOOLS.

1.- A hand or electric drill and bits of different diameters.
2.- A soldering iron and solder wire.
3.- Small flat nose pliers.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS
1.- Open a walkie-talkie (only one, which will be used as transmitter) removing the batteries lid and the small screws that join the two parts of the walkie-talkie. The inside will be left at sight.
2.- Once the walkie-talkie is opened, look at the contact terminals of the button in the obverse, where you will see a symbol of a note. Solder a fine wire to each of the two contact terminals of this button (inside), taking out the wires through a 0,06 inches (1,5 mm) hole in the back of the casing. This is very easy, but if you’re not sure you can do it, you can always go to an electronics workshop and they will do it in ten minutes. (PICTURE 3)

3.- Once this is done, close the walkie-talkie, leaving the ends of the wires out. (PICTURE 4)

4.- Now mechanize the box to place and immobilize the walkie-talkie inside, trying to leave the aerial out through a hole you need to do for this purpose. (PICTURE 5)

5.- Place the stainless material screw (where the transmitter will be placed in the rod pod) and female double connectors . (PICTURE 6)

6.- Then place the LEDs, which are not essential but are useful to check if the transmitter receives energy from the strike detector, and put a coal resistor in the positive terminal –or pole– of each LED, whose value is about 1 kilo-ohm for each 12 volts that the LED receives. Place also the female double connectors and the relay. This piece is essential for the setting. Now link up the connections following the circuit sketch, paying attention especially to the ‘shared’ pin of the relay and the pin that corresponds to ‘on’. (PICTURE 7) (FIGURE 1) (FIGURE 1A) (FIGURE 2)
7.- If the voltage from the female connector of the bite alarm is smaller than the voltage from the 9 volts battery you shall place a relay with the adequate voltage. You can find out this voltage using a polymer.  There are polymers of 3, 6, 9 and 12 volts. You should choose the relay whose voltage is slightly superior than the voltage of the force exit connector. (PICTURE 7-A)

Before closing the box you need to tune in the walkie-talkies at the same frequency. This is very easy and is well explained in the manufacturer’s book of instructions.  (PICTURE 8)

OPERATION
1.- Put up the whole setting with the rods. Attach the wire that goes to the transmitter to each bite alarm. Turn down the volume to the minimum – you won’t need it.
2.- Activate the bite alarm.
3.- Activate the transmitter and receiver with the button (MENU on/off) (PICTURE 9)
4.- Check that the system works properly by causing false bites with the alarm volume muted, you will get repeated beeps in the receiver as signal. You can turn up the volume as much as you want.

This transmitter is valid for every make of alarm with an external connection for wire and for one or two rods. If we want a transmitter for more rods, we have to add that equal number of relays as equal number rods is put by us on the rod pod.

Although this system is totally rain-proof if you close the leaks of the box as a precautionary measure, don’t submerge it in water. You can put a reflecting aluminium jacket to avoid too much sun affecting the internal mechanism.(PICTURE 17)

I suggest that you use rechargeable batteries in case that the walkie-talkies don’t have their own ones, given that rechargeable batteries’ life is longer than disposal alkaline batteries’ life, and they respect the environment as well, which is the essence of carp fishing.
