Key to Families of Suborder CLUPEOIDEA.

1) A prominent gular plate present between the 2 arms of the lower jaw ; last ray of dorsal fin prolonged and filamentous....................Tarpons, family Elopidae.

Megalops atlanticus Valenciennes 1847.                               

Description ;
  Body oblong, compressed, depth about 4 in length. lower edge with ordinary scales . Mouth large, oblique, lower jaw prominent and projecting , maxillary extending beyond eye .Eye 7 in head. Fins ; dorsal (1) ,12, short and high , situated well behind pelvics , last ray much prolonged ; anal 20, falcate , last ray produced ; caudal widely forked. Scales larger , thick , silvery, about 42 in lateral line. A bony plate (gular plate) on the throat between the branches of the lower jaw, tongue, and on several mouth bones.

Colour ;
silvery , darker above.

Size ;
Up to a length of 8  feet .

Megalos cyprinoides ( Broussonet.)

Description ;
  Oblong , slightly compressed , ventral ( 14-15 rays.) profile more convex than dorsal ( 16-20 rays.) , belly rounded. Lower jaw prominent. Maxillary reaches to a little before  or somewhat  behind  hindborder of eye.Origin of dorsal midway between snout  and base of caudal, or  a little nearer to caudal. Its upperborder  concave and its last ray produced into a filament. Anal concave , much longer than dorsal. Ventrals ( 10-11 rays) below dorsal , their origin before that of dorsal and midway between anal and origin of pectorals ( 14-15 rays). Scales thin , lateral line about 42.

Colour ;
Darkish blue , silvery below. Dorsal , caudal and upperpart of pectorals black .

Size ;
in average 40 cm.

สิ่งที่ผมสังเกตุเห็นง่ายสุด คือ ความยาวของขากรรไกรบน ระหว่างเลยลูกตา กับ ไม่ถึง อยู่ในระดับใต้ตาหรือยาวถึงขอบตาหลัง ตามที่บอกไว้ข้างต้นครับ หากท่านใดมีข้อมูลมากกว่านี้ รบกวนเพิ่มเติมให้ด้วยน่ะครับ เพื่อประโยชน์กับผู้อ่านท่านอื่นๆ ขอบคุณครับผม.
