I finally got around to getting my gear ready and I thought I would give a how to thread a try. Nothing fancy, just how I do it with the stuff I have on hand.

The reel is a USA 560 about 5 years old or so, it's been dunked, sanded and has several hundred fish to it's credit. I like the reels, I think they're better than they get credit for. A little TLC and they will last a good long time, a good value for those of us on a budget.

Suggestions, criticisms and comment welcome.

To do it a little different I start with the reel disassembled and the parts cleaned, here are the parts.

I lubed up the AR bearing with some Penn lube and worked it into the bearing with the inner race.

Now lube the pinion gear and shaft, slide the two bearings on the shaft with the AR bearing in the middle and install it in the housing, install the cap.

Drop in the main gear bearing, lube up the crosswind gear and the pin that it fits onto and install.

Lube up the cross wind block, main shaft bushing, end cap and install.

Lube the main shaft, slide it through the pinion shaft and into the rear bushing, line up the hole in the shaft with the hole in the crosswind block and install the screw.

Now the main gear gets lubed, install the other bearing on it and drop it in.

Put the cover on and the gear box is done.

Now the Rotor: First I filled the hole where the bail trip wire went through with RTV. Like most everyone I removed it and use the reel as a manual bail because the bail tends to trip on hard casts. Might as well seal the hole and keep the crud out. Make sure to clean up any that pushs through to the inside of the Rotor.

f you choose to use the auto trip arm ..skip the RTV and remember to grease this boss so it will trip smoothly.

Now drop on the rotor, snug up the nut and install the retainer.

Install the spool drive pin and lock it in place with the plastic retainer.

Now I switch to white grease. Lube up the bail spring and shaft, install it in the housing, line it up with the hole on the bail arm and install.

Lube and install the rest of the bail parts and covers and the main part of the reel is done.

Now the drag and cap, I lube up the parts as shown. No mystery's here. One thing to watch is the drag retainer has a notch that fits over the line clip, it can only go on one way.

That's about it, she should be good as new, I hope it helps someone.
